Tuxedo Rebellion

February 1992 – I went on consecutive RSVP Caribbean winter cruises in 1991 and 1992. The cruise line used to require its mostly male passengers to dress up in tuxedoes for two dinners each cruise, an annoyance to some of us.

In mock protest, on the second such evening on the cruise in 1992, I donned a tuxedo top, combined with Spandex multi-colored shorts and black cowboy boots.

By evening’s end, our table had inspired a minor rebellion throughout the dining room. That may have had something to do with why the dress code was eventually eliminated.
